The 2018-2019 season at RiverStage Community Theatre showcased a remarkable range of theatrical experiences, from contemporary comedy and heartfelt romance to thought-provoking drama, family holiday traditions, and blockbuster musical theatre. Through an engaging and diverse lineup of productions, RiverStage continued its mission of bringing high-quality live theatre to audiences throughout the Susquehanna Valley while providing opportunities for local artists to shine.

The season opened with I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!, the long-running musical comedy by Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts. Through a series of humorous and relatable vignettes, the production explored the joys, challenges, and absurdities of relationships, dating, marriage, and family life. Filled with memorable songs and sharp wit, the show delighted audiences with its universal themes and comedic charm.

In the fall, audiences enjoyed Who Am I This Time? And Other Conundrums of Love, Aaron Posner’s adaptation of stories by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Blending romance, humor, and heartfelt storytelling, the production celebrated the transformative power of theatre and human connection while bringing Vonnegut’s unique voice to the stage.

During the holiday season, RiverStage partnered with Strictly Ballet to present A Community Nutcracker Ballet. Featuring music by P.I. Tchaikovsky and performances by talented local dancers and performers, this festive production became a memorable celebration of community spirit and holiday tradition.

The winter season featured Wonder of the World by David Lindsay-Abaire, a quirky and imaginative comedy about self-discovery, adventure, and second chances. Filled with eccentric characters and unexpected twists, the production delivered laughter while exploring themes of personal growth and finding one’s place in the world.

In the spring, RiverStage presented Oleanna by David Mamet, a powerful and provocative drama examining issues of communication, power, perception, and conflict. The intimate two-character production challenged audiences to consider multiple perspectives while sparking thoughtful discussion long after the final curtain.

The season concluded with the international musical sensation Mamma Mia!, featuring the beloved songs of ABBA. Filled with energy, humor, and heart, the production transported audiences to a sun-soaked Greek island where family, friendship, and love take center stage. The show’s unforgettable music and vibrant performances provided a spectacular finale to an outstanding season.

During the summer, audiences also enjoyed Shakespearience, RiverStage’s celebration of Shakespeare and classical theatre. Presented in an accessible and engaging format, the production continued the organization’s commitment to introducing audiences to the works of one of history’s greatest playwrights while fostering appreciation for live performance in the community.

The 2018-2019 season demonstrated RiverStage Community Theatre’s dedication to artistic excellence, community engagement, and diverse programming.
