The 2021-2022 season marked a triumphant return to live theatre for RiverStage Community Theatre. Following the challenges and uncertainties of the previous year, audiences once again gathered to experience the excitement, emotion, and connection that only live performance can provide. The season opened with Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, a powerful courtroom drama that explores justice, prejudice, and the importance of thoughtful deliberation. Set entirely within a jury room, the production captivated audiences with its intense performances and timeless examination of civic responsibility.
During the holiday season, RiverStage partnered with Strictly Ballet to present A Lewisburg Victorian Nutcracker, a cherished community tradition that brought together dancers, actors, musicians, and volunteers to celebrate the magic of the season. Filled with beautiful music, enchanting choreography, and local talent, the production continued to delight audiences of all ages.
In February, RiverStage presented The Secret Garden, adapted by Pamela Sterling from the beloved novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This heartwarming story of friendship, healing, and renewal transported audiences to the Yorkshire countryside, where a neglected garden and a lonely young girl help transform the lives of everyone around them.
Spring brought the comedy Five Women Wearing the Same Dress by Alan Ball, a witty and insightful look at a group of bridesmaids navigating relationships, family expectations, and personal insecurities during a wedding reception. The production blended humor and heartfelt moments while showcasing a talented ensemble cast.
The season concluded with the musical comedy Monty Python’s Spamalot, a hilarious adaptation of the legendary film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Filled with outrageous humor, memorable songs, and larger-than-life characters, the production provided a joyful and energetic finale that celebrated the fun and creativity of community theatre.
During the summer, audiences also enjoyed Shakespeare in the Park, continuing RiverStage’s tradition of bringing live theatre outdoors and making the performing arts accessible to the broader community. The production offered a unique opportunity for audiences to experience classical theatre in an open-air setting while celebrating the enduring legacy of William Shakespeare.
