The 2022-2023 season at RiverStage Community Theatre celebrated creativity, collaboration, and the power of storytelling through a diverse collection of productions that entertained, inspired, and challenged audiences. From thought-provoking contemporary works and musical revues to original theatre and beloved family classics, the season reflected RiverStage’s commitment to presenting a wide range of theatrical experiences for the Susquehanna Valley community. The season featured I Know What’s Best For You: Stories of Reproductive Freedom, Side by Side by Sondheim, A Lewisburg Victorian Nutcracker (2022), The 10th Gaspipe One-Act Play Festival, Tiny Island, and The Sound of Music.

The season opened with I Know What’s Best For You: Stories of Reproductive Freedom, a powerful and timely collection of stories that explored personal experiences, choices, and perspectives surrounding reproductive rights. Through a series of compelling voices and narratives, the production encouraged meaningful conversation while demonstrating theatre’s ability to address important social issues.

Audiences were then treated to Side by Side by Sondheim, a celebrated musical revue featuring some of the most memorable songs from legendary composer Stephen Sondheim. Filled with humor, romance, and wit, the production showcased the brilliance of one of musical theatre’s greatest storytellers while highlighting the talents of RiverStage’s performers and musicians.

During the holiday season, RiverStage partnered with local artists and performers to present A Lewisburg Victorian Nutcracker (2022). This beloved community tradition brought the magic of the season to life through music, dance, and theatrical storytelling, creating a festive experience for audiences of all ages.

The spring season featured The 10th Gaspipe One-Act Play Festival, a milestone celebration of original short-form theatre. The festival provided local playwrights, directors, and actors with an opportunity to showcase new work while offering audiences an exciting evening of creativity and innovation.

Next came Tiny Island, an imaginative and heartfelt production that transported audiences into a unique world of adventure, discovery, and human connection. The show highlighted RiverStage’s dedication to presenting engaging contemporary theatre that appeals to audiences of all ages.

The season concluded with The Sound of Music, one of the most beloved musicals ever written. Featuring unforgettable songs, memorable characters, and an inspiring story of family, courage, and hope, the production brought together a large cast and creative team for a spectacular finale. As one of the most cherished works in musical theatre history, The Sound of Music provided a fitting and uplifting conclusion to an outstanding season.
